As questions circulate about job cuts, IGT is confirming changes as it works through a broader transition.

In a statement provided to 2 News Nevada on Tuesday, IGT confirmed it is laying off 700 employees globally, which is 10 percent of its overall workforce.

"As we advance the integration of the legacy IGT and Everi businesses, we are aligning our organization to accelerate innovation, strengthen execution, and position the company for long-term growth," the statement said.

2 News Nevada spoke with an employee who was laid off on Monday. The employee, who asked to remain anonymous, said the company did not tell them beforehand of the layoffs.

"They set up the layoff call to be first thing Monday morning. So that itself is suspicious," they said. "They made it seem like this was, you know, just a regular one-on-one meeting, but ended up talking about a layoff script. Mentioning it was company restructuring, that it's nothing to do with, you know, my particular performance."

When asked how many Reno employees were affected, IGT said it is not disclosing regional numbers.

The anonymous employee doesn't know either, since IGT removed them from the system immediately.

"As soon as they finished the layoff call, they completely wiped all access that I had. So I had no way to even reach out to my old coworkers at that point," they said.

The employee said there were shifts in the workplace culture that hinted change was coming, including a reluctance by management to spend more money.

"Our team was needing extra time and extra funding to continue supporting our project initiatives. And leadership was pushing back a bit on that," the employee said. "They were absolutely looking for ways to, you know, save funding where they could, as I understood it."

IGT said it is offering support to those affected.

“We thank these employees for their contributions and service to our organization, and we are committed to supporting affected employees with severance, outplacement services, and, where possible, opportunities elsewhere within the company,” the statement said. “This strategic realignment positions IGT to move forward with greater focus, agility, and competitiveness.”

The statement was provided by Phil O’Shaughnessy, IGT VP Global Communications, Government Relations and Sustainability, and was sent from Las Vegas. The company said it could not provide additional details.
