Regional first responders are investigating after two people were killed in a plane crash south of Empire Sunday morning.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says they first responded to help finding a missing aircraft near Empire.

When deputies got there, they found a single-engine private plane crashed about 7.5 miles southwest of Empire.

The two passengers were found dead inside the plane.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting the formal aircraft accident investigation, and they will be providing all further updates.

the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identities after the family has been notified.

The Reno-Tahoe airport authority says the plane took off from Reno-Stead airport this morning. Then, just before 8:30, the Washoe county sheriff's office tells us it received a request to help find it near empire.
