A participant is recovering in the hospital after getting hurt in last weekend's Paydirt Bicycle Race in the Carson City area.
The sheriff's office says search and rescue found the unidentified cyclist "seriously injured and in shock" on Saturday.
After Douglas County Search and Rescue arrived, the rider was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center by Battle Born Medevac.
The cyclist’s partner and their bikes were then transported by a Search and Rescue ground unit to the Fuji Park staging area.
In a Facebook post, the Carson City Sheriff's Office says that Search and Rescue helps with the race bike race each year.
"This includes deploying a Command unit, Jeeps, Quad ATVs, and Side-by-Sides throughout the Brunswick Canyon area. SAR members provide assistance to cyclists experiencing injuries and mechanical breakdowns. In addition, several minor abrasions were assessed and some cyclists with mechanical breakdowns were transported out of the canyon."
