REMSA Health and Care Flight will recognize first responders and support professionals on Friday during the organization’s annual EMS Week awards celebration, which also marks major milestones for both programs.

According to REMSA Health, this year’s “Champions of Care: A Ruby and Sapphire Event” commemorates 40 years of REMSA Health and 45 years of Care Flight while honoring the emergency medical professionals who serve Washoe County.

The event is part of National Emergency Medical Services Week, observed May 17-23, and highlights the lifesaving work of EMS professionals across the country. This year’s national EMS Week theme is “Improving Outcomes, Together.” REMSA Health, the exclusive ground emergency medical services provider for Washoe County, said the celebration will recognize employees for their contributions to the safety and well-being of the community, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, nurses, medical dispatchers, pilots, mechanics, and administrative professionals.

Organizers said 36 awards will be presented for exceptional service, clinical excellence, community partnership, and lifetime achievement. The evening will also include the Care Flight Wings Ceremony, where crew members officially earn the title of Flight Nurse or Flight Paramedic after completing training and testing.

“Excellent patient care starts with exceptional people, and our experienced frontline clinicians deliver care that patients consistently rate with high satisfaction,” said REMSA Health President and CEO Barry Duplantis. “Those honored this year put the patients and the community first in everything we do.”
