A new class of law enforcement graduates is preparing to begin serving communities across Northern Nevada after completing months of academy training and reaching a major career milestone.
According to the Reno Police Department in an online post, 20 Reno Police officers graduated from Northern Nevada Law Enforcement Academy Class 2026-01 during a ceremony that featured Chief Solferino as the keynote speaker. The chief recognized the dedication, perseverance, and commitment demonstrated by the graduates throughout their training.
Photos shared from the ceremony also showed graduates who will serve with the Sparks Police Department and the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, highlighting the academy's role in preparing officers from agencies across the region.
The graduating class earned several notable distinctions.
One officer received the prestigious Top Cop Award, an honor voted on by fellow academy classmates that recognizes leadership, professionalism, and teamwork.
Another officer graduated as class valedictorian after earning the highest grade point average in the academy.
The Al Del Vecchio Award was also presented during the ceremony. The award recognizes an active officer who demonstrates high standards of law enforcement service, integrity, and commitment to the community. It serves as a tribute to Al Del Vecchio's legacy and the values he represented throughout his career.
The department congratulated the graduates and said their hard work, sacrifice, and dedication have prepared them for careers serving their communities.
