Washoe deputies post photo of damaged Toyota

Imagine opening your car door and finding a bear stuck inside - that's what happened to one owner in the Incline Village area recently.

Washoe County deputies say the bear ran off once the Toyota door was opened but you can see what it left behind.

On a Facebook post, deputies remind everyone that, "as we move into spring, bear activity around the Tahoe Basin increases. This is a good reminder to stay bear aware when enjoying the outdoors and even at home."

The sheriff's office offers these prevention tips:

* Do not leave food or scented items in your vehicle.
* Lock your vehicle doors and close windows.
* Clean and store grills and smokers after each use to avoid attracting bears.
* Do not leave garbage outside. Always place trash inside designated bear proof receptacles.
* Never feed bears.
