Drivers traveling through the Lake Tahoe basin next week should plan for delays as multiple road construction projects continue on state highways in Placer and El Dorado counties.

Caltrans said work will continue on several projects, including a $31.7 million pavement rehabilitation project along State Route 28 and a broadband expansion project along State Route 89 aimed at bringing high-speed internet service to rural communities.

Along State Route 28, crews are continuing pavement rehabilitation work. Resurfacing through Tahoe City was completed last fall, and crews have recently returned to paint crosswalks, traffic lanes, and green bike lane treatments.

Grinding and paving operations with one-way traffic control are scheduled overnight from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., between Onyx Street and Stag Drive, between Agate Road and West Agatam Avenue, between West Agatam Avenue and Anderson Road, and between the State Route 267 junction and Pino Grande Avenue on various nights through the week.

Electrical work is also planned along State Route 28 between Anderson Road and National Avenue and between the State Route 267 junction and East Agatam Avenue during daytime hours, some days beginning at 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Along State Route 267, crack sealing operations are scheduled between Martis Creek Lake Road and Sawmill Flat Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

In El Dorado County, paving operations are planned along State Route 89 between the Alpine County line and the U.S. Highway 50 junction in Meyers from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The broadband project, being completed by Teichert Construction, will bring utility work and one-way traffic control to several sections of State Route 89. Work is scheduled between Camp Richardson and Cascade Creek, between Meeks Creek and the El Dorado and Placer County line, and during evening and overnight hours between the county line and Sugar Pine Road.

Drivers could encounter delays of up to 20 minutes because of the various construction activities. Caltrans advised travelers to allow extra time, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up periods.

Construction work will be suspended on weekends and holidays. Schedules may change because of weather, equipment or material availability, or other unexpected events.
